Charles Donald Reeder beloved father, husband, and friend passed away May 10, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born May 12, 1934 in Williams (Lawrence County) Indiana to Horace and Esther (Loveall) Reeder. He graduated from Williams High School in 1952 and married Sue Tomlinson in 1955. After graduating from Ball State University in 1955 he began teaching in Indianapolis. Most of his teaching career was spent at Broad Ripple High School where he was the head of the Industrial Arts Department. He was many students’ “favorite teacher”. After teaching for 25 years he started his own construction company and then worked as a realtor for several years.
He was a long time member of All Souls Unitarian Church. He and Sue traveled the country especially loving the backroads. Charlie was a skilled craftsman who could build, make or fix anything that required a tool. He was well known and loved for his quick wit, sense of humor and (good natured) practical jokes.
He was preceded in death by Sue in 2012 and is survived by children Mark Reeder (Sarah Burton), Mary Reeder (Jay Hancock), Martha Roberts (C.J. Roberts); grandchildren Seth Winter (Sally Phillips Winter), Timothy Winter, Jason Winter (Christine Perkins Winter), Charlotte Hancock, Catherine Hancock and three great grandchildren, Liam, Daniel, and Isabela.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2017 with visitation at 11 am and memorial service at 1 pm. at Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple, 1305 East Broad Ripple Avenue.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the ALS Association-Indiana Chapter, 6525 E. 82nd Street, Suite 115, Indianapolis, IN 46250 or American Diabetes Association, Indiana Chapter, 8604 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
