Charles A. Pechette

Charles A. Pechette, 91, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, August 22, 2018. Charlie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jacqueline Ruth (Fonder). Born November 25, 1926 in Flushing, NY to the late A. Charles and Edna Pechette, Charlie was a 1944 graduate of Mineola High School, Mineola, NY and served in the US Navy from 1944-1946. He received his B.S. from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY in 1950, and moved to Indianapolis in 1957 to pursue a career in the post-war home building industry. He went on to develop apartment communities throughout central Indiana. He also held leadership positions in the home building industry, serving as President of the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis in 1967, of the Home Builders Association of Indiana in 1975, and of the Apartment Association of Indiana in 1982. Charlie was named a Life Director of the National Association of Home Builders in 1969. In the later years of his career, he was Chairman of Mark III Management Corporation and Charter Group, Inc., responsible for managing 1,500 multi-family apartment units.

Charlie was an active member of the Indianapolis community. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Indianapolis Foundation from 1984-2002, serving as Chairman in 1989, 1995 and 2001; member of the Board of Trustees of the Central Indiana Community Foundation from 1997-2001; President and member of the Board of Directors of the William E. English Foundation; and member of the Public Housing Task Force, City of Indianapolis in 1984. Charlie was also active in local Republican politics serving as a Precinct Committeeman from 1968-1990 and a member of the Washington Township Republican Club. He was also an avid golfer and long-time member of the Country Club of Indianapolis. When Charlie was not busy with his work, civic and political activities, and was not golfing, he liked to spend time walking and playing with his beloved dogs Coco, Fitzie and Gracie.

In addition to his wife, Charlie is survived by his sons, John C. (wife, Celeste) Pechette, Thomas F. (wife, Sarah) Pechette, Michael A. (wife, Jean Marie) Pechette and Charles D. (wife, Jennifer) Pechette; grandchildren, Arielle (husband, Bob) Markley and Jonathan Pechette, Joshua Pechette, Alexander (wife, Kathryn) and Christina Pechette, Cassie (husband, Chris) Rensing, Sean O’Gara, Charlie A., Thomas and Kyle Pechette; great grandchildren, Will Markley and Connor Rensing; sister, Edna Murphy.

A Catholic funeral Mass will be celebrated Sunday, August 26 at 1:30 PM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7200 Sarto Drive, Indianapolis, with visitation at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Conner Suite, 9700 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM.
