Charlene A. Smith

Charlene Anne Smith 86 of Indianapolis, IN passed away December 3, 2021. She was born April 1, 1935 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Paul Blackburn and Farrell (Reveal) Markham. Charlene loved her family and Jesus deeply. She was a prayer warrior and shared the gospel. She made herself available for any needs for her family and friends as much as possible. Charlene’s continuing goal was always to share Christ and His love to all who needed her. Charlene was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother, aunt, and a friend to all. With the sudden passing of her daughter Yvonne, she stepped in to become the grandmother to her daughter Yvonne’s grandchildren. Charlene was a singer in her church choir at Rainbow Acres Church of God, which is now Avon Community of God. In her later years, she was able to sing in the Mount Pleasant Christian Church choir which brought much joy to her. She had a great gift of writing songs and poetry which she shared with family and friends. She also had a ministry of sending cards throughout the years to keep others encouraged. She was a member of CWC, formerly known as WCG, at her church for 26 years. She sang in multiple nursing homes and at family reunions, and specials at church. She was also a mail clerk at IUPUI for many years before her retirement. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Winona, her beloved husband Kenneth Gene Smith, and her youngest daughter Yvonne Marie. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Steve) Carmer, grandchildren, Teresa, Kerri, Stephanie, Steve Jr, and daughter Yvonne’s children, Tiffanie and Chantil, along with in-law grandchildren. Charlene also had many great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren Mom’s legacy is her love for all. Celebration services will be held on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 11 am at Flanner Buchanan Floral Park, 425 N Holt Rd, Indianapolis, IN with visitation there from 9:30 am until the celebration service at 11am.
