Cathy Ilene Gordon

Cathy Ilene Gordon, 72 of Atlanta, IN (formerly Maumee, OH), passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Cathy was born March 9, 1951, in Toledo, OH to the late Frank R. and Betty J. Schaetzke. She was a 1969 graduate of Rossford High School and then went on to attend the Mercy School of Nursing in Toledo. Cathy worked as a Registered Nurse and diabetic educator within Toledo area hospitals and private practice for over 25 years.

Before the passing of her late husband Larry, they enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, taking an Alaskan cruise or two, and just generally enjoying each other’s company – especially sipping a cup of coffee at the local Barnes and Noble. After his passing, Cathy moved to Indiana to live with her daughter and family. Her greatest joy was watching her grandson grow up. Her family considers themselves very fortunate to have provided an opportunity for grandma and grandson to be the best of friends and companions during her last 5 years. While she was still able, she loved attending his hockey games and later watching live streams of games and tournaments. In her final hours, he was able to share with her that he made the hockey team he had hoped for and got to hear her say how proud she was of him.

Cathy was the widow of Larry D. Gordon. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly J. (husband, Brad) Rynearson; grandson, Case Rynearson; sisters, Karen Fitzgerald and Kimberly Moll; brother, Frank Schaetzke (Nancy); and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her infant son, John Steven Gallagher.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Flanner Buchanan-Hamilton Memorial Park, Prairie Waters Event Center.
