Cathleen Eve Markland passed peacefully into eternal life on June 5, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 21,1953 to Charles E. Colson III and Martha J. Colson, Cathy was a life-long central Indiana resident, graduating from both Indiana University and Ivy Tech. After graduating with an Education degree from IU, she taught Elementary Art. She later continued on to a career at AG Edwards working for a financial advisor. After success in her early careers, she went on to get a second degree in Nursing from Ivy Tech and spent her final working years as a Registered Nurse working in Home Health Care. Over the years she continued a family tradition of antique dealing as well.
Cathy’s retirement years have been filled with the joy of her grandchildren and full of the things she loved most. Cathy held a life-long love of art. Her works can be found in the homes of friends and family and her painted china won awards including best in show at the Indiana State Fair. Her other interests included golfing, traveling, cooking, sewing and fishing. Most importantly, she loved sharing each of her passions with her 9 grandchildren. She could often be found with her grandkids cooking breakfast, baking, painting a new landscape, swinging a jump rope or showing them the treasures of the world on their latest adventure.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Martha, her brother Charles E. Colson IV and the father of her twins John D. Stevens. She is survived by her husband, Michael M. Markland; her twins John A. (Jennifer) Stevens and Laura E. (Matthew) Soto; stepsons Michael K. (Shenghua) Markland and Brandon (Christine) Markland; and her brother Stephen E. (Rebecca) Colson. Her legacy is carried on by her 9 greatest joys, her grandchildren: Jonathan, Naomi, Elijah and Mark Soto of Carmel, Indiana; Cade and Case Tolin of Denton, Texas; Mengzhen and Mengmei Markland of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Sullivan Markland of Charleston, South Carolina.
