Catherine Miller Gates

99, of Avon, Indiana, passed away on November 10, 2020.  Catherine was born on December 22, 1920 in Hopwood, Pennsylvania to the late Charles and Catherine Miller.  She was one of 9 siblings.  Catherine was known as Kate to family and friends.  After high school she worked as a beautician in her sister’s beauty shop.  During WWII she left home to work in the New Jersey shipyards.  This is where she met her future husband, Charles, who was in the Coast Guard.  Kate moved to Indiana after the war and married Charles.  She worked at RCA in Indianapolis before starting a family.  After Charles retired, they started a successful property rental business.  Kate was an avid quilter and wonderful cook.  She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles Gates and grandson, Derek.  She is survived by her children, Larry (Diane) Gates, Linda (Tom) Laidlaw and Rita (Robert) Rongo; grandchildren, Sean, Sara, Annie, David, Scott, Jason, Jamie, Eric and Michael and eleven great grandchildren.  Visitation will be Sunday, November 15, 2020 from 3 to 5 pm at Flanner Buchanan-Decatur Township.  Funeral Mass will be Monday, November 16, 2020 at 10:00 am at St. Ann Catholic Church.  Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Memorial contributions made to the American Heart Association.
