Catherine Louise -Kitty- (Lohse) Gould

November 13, 1945 — August 28, 2017

Catherine Louise “Kitty” (Lohse) Gould, 71, of Indianapolis, passed away at home on Monday, August 28, 2017. She was born on November 13, 1945 in Indianapolis, to the late Henry and Lola (Lennox) Lohse.

Kitty graduated from North Central High School in 1963. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Indiana University in 1967 and a Master of Arts from Indiana Central College in 1975. During that time Kitty was an art teacher in Warren Township schools. After she married her first husband, Charles Campbell, she resided in Washington D.C. where her first daughter was born. Kitty and Charlie moved back to Indianapolis soon after, and in 1972 her twin daughters were born.

In 1980 Kitty earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University. She practiced law with Jones, Lytle and Jones through the early 1980’s. She was devoted to helping the underserved, such as Native Americans fighting for sacred land.
Through the 1980’s she and her family enjoyed spending vacations with family and friends at her parents’ home in Port Charlotte, Florida. Florida was a second home to her.
In 1985 Kitty began working as the art teacher at Scecina High School where she stayed until 1992. All the while she continued to pursue her love of oil painting, completing multiple portraits, still lifes, and landscapes. After working at Scecina she continued to put her artistic talents to work as an art framer, muralist and sign painter all around Indianapolis.

In 2003 she became a doting grandmother to grandson Jakub and then to Miles and Charlotte in 2004 and 2006 respectively.

By then she was semi-retired, working as a part-time art teacher at Southport Presbyterian Christian School. Her last position was as art teacher at Lutheran High School.
In 2016 Kitty was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. She battled courageously to beat the disease, surviving multiple surgeries along the way. On August 28 she passed away, suffering no longer.

Kitty was a devoted animal-lover, especially of cats. She never lived without a pet her entire life. Her last cat, Daisy, lived to be sixteen years old.
Our mother will be remembered for her artistic talent and quick wit. She was very accomplished and took great pride in her work and her art. She was a devoted and loving friend, wife, mother, teacher, and grandmother to so many around her.
Kitty is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (Christopher Ryan) Campbell, Megan (Shane) Rilat and Heather (Stephen) Bunny; grandchildren, Jakub Resler, Miles Andrews and Charlotte Andrews. Kitty is also survived by her brother, David Lohse; and former spouses, Charles Campbell and Jim Gould. Additional survivors include cousins Steve Selka and Ellen Lennox. She is also survived by niece Deborah Lohse and nephews Ron and Jason Lohse.

She was preceded in death by her beloved feline companion, Daisy.
A celebration of Kitty’s life will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 12noon at Flanner and Buchanan – Memorial Park with visitation 2 hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice. www.flannerbuchanan.com
