Carolyn “Carol” M. Degenkolb, 92, of Fishers passed away October 12, 2019. She was born July 25, 1927, in Galena, Illinois, the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Lucille M. (Binninger) Henning. She married Robert S. Degenkolb on August 20, 1949
Carol grew up in Galena. IL and graduated from Galena High School and then attended the University of Illinois to pursue her Bachelor of Science degree and a M.S. It was at U of I that she met Robert “Bob” Degenkolb at a church picnic and they married on August 20th, 1949.
Carol taught Jr. High Science and then later Vocational Horticulture at Lawrence North High School and was a FFA Leader (Future Farmers of America), and was a state accredited Floral Judge. Active in numerous garden clubs in both Indiana and Tennessee, she loved passing on her floral knowledge and often said “a weed is just a wildflower growing in the wrong place”.
Carol loved history, collecting antiques and both she and Bob spent many years searching their genealogical roots and published a family history.
Active in her faith, Carol was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis and Fairfield Glade Methodist church in Tennessee.
She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Robert Degenkolb; four children, Linda (Lee) Wolff, Paul (Dianne) Degenkolb, Sue (Jeff) Tinkey, and Tom (Terri) Degenkolb; nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
