Caroline “Carrie” Jackson Logsdon, a well-known figure in Indiana communications and community service circles, passed away on January 1, 2025, at the age of 72, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 30, 1952, Carrie made an indelible mark on both her profession and her community, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, perseverance, and dedication.

Carrie was a proud “Air Force brat” and got to spend her high school days in Hawaii when her father, a fighter pilot, was stationed there. She graduated from Radford High School in Honolulu, then began her college career at the University of Alabama, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and which started her on a lifetime as an ardent Alabama football fan. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications at Wayne State University, where she made the Dean’s List. With boundless energy and talent, she embarked on a career that spanned several decades advocating for vital health issues.

Carrie served as a news anchor and medical reporter for WTHR-TV 13, where she combined her passion for journalism with a deep commitment to public health. Her role as co-host of the Riley Hospital Children’s Miracle Network telethon became not just a job, but a heartfelt mission in support of the children and families in this community.

Carrie’s work with the Indiana State Department of Health from 1986 to 1992 showcased her leadership as she served as the Director of Communications, producing several award-winning public service campaigns and documentaries that raised awareness on significant health issues. Following this, she continued her impactful work as the Director of Communications for Beeson Facial Surgery, a role she held from 1992 to 1996.

She was a founding member of the Ryan White Foundation, serving as vice-president from 1992 to 1995, and served on the board of the Visiting Nurse Service from 1987 to 1991 and from 1997 to 1999. She also was a member of the American Diabetes Association’s Indiana chapter.

In 1996 she took a leap of faith and founded her own company, Media Masters, which offered media training to corporations nationwide. She carried her commitment to the community, coordinating sponsors and donors for the annual WENS-Riley Radiothon from 2000 to 2003, ensuring that funds were raised to support Riley Hospital for Children.

Carrie’s dedication to healthcare continued as she worked as the Director of the Indianapolis Medical Society’s Project Health, where she assumed the primary role in coordinating healthcare for low-income uninsured residents of Marion County. Her tireless efforts touched countless lives and brought hope to those who needed it most.

Carrie is pre-deceased by her daughter, Lindsay K. VanDyke and by her parents, Robert and Joan Jackson of San Antonio, Texas. Survivors include her brother, Tom Jackson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and sisters Kay Cowles and Susan Galentine, both of San Antonio.

She is also survived by her husband, Art Logsdon, who was by her side throughout her life’s journey. Together, they shared a love filled with laughter, support and unyielding companionship. Carrie’s spirit, courage and dedication will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
