Carol Sue Russell (Jeffers), 72, of Indianapolis passed away on October 18, 2022. Carol was born to her late parents, Otis and Edith Jeffers on December 23, 1949, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Carol graduated from Lawrence Central High School—class of 1968. Upon her graduation, she went on to obtain her Associates degree from the Central Business College. During that time, she worked briefly at RCA in Indianapolis. Around this time, she met the love of her life, Wayne Russell, on a blind date. It was apparently love at first sight, because she quickly moved to California, where he was stationed, to marry him. Carol was a proud military wife, who enjoyed moving and experiencing different places with Wayne. She loved traveling! Her and Wayne spent 4 years in Japan teaching English to children in adjoining classrooms. She loved making beautiful Japanese art with Kimono textiles. She also built lifelong friendships while they lived there. Japan held a special place in her heart. When Carol and Wayne lived in North Carolina, Carol became an office manager for a doctor’s office in the Mental Health Services industry. She was very diligent as a manager, and very proud of her title. Carol also camped with Wayne, family, and friends. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and playing her handheld Yahtzee game. She was always in charge of making the broccoli cheese casserole for holidays—her recipe was “out of this world, good.” In later years, Carol monitored a school bus for Franklin Township Schools. She almost never went a day without talking to her sister, Pat. They talked so often that some would jokingly ask, “What else could you have to talk about?” Sometimes, she’d say to her sister, “You talk, and I’ll listen.” She loved her Sunday morning phone calls with Pat. Carol was a loving wife, sister, and friend. She will undoubtedly be missed deeply by all the lives she has touched.
Carol is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Wayne Russell, sister, Patricia Jeffers-Broderick; nephew, Forrest “Bud” Arthur; and nieces, Ramona Merrill, Rebecca Hagner, and Robin Hollcraft.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Edith Jeffers; and her grandmothers who held a very special place in her heart, Ruby “Mom” Haines and Rephel Jeffers.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 11AM-1PM at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 East Washington Street. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1PM. Carol will be laid to rest in Washington Park East Cemetery.
