Carol K. Mcateer

On June 11, 2022, Carol Kennedy McAteer passed away peacefully in Carmel, Indiana at the age of 89.  Carol was born to Vivian Cunningham Kennedy and Charles Russell Kennedy on December 9, 1932 in Hundred, West Virginia.  She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Phillip John McAteer, her daughter Claire (Brinton) Farrand, son Jeff (Liyan) McAteer, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  Her sister, Kitty (Hank) Price of Philadelphia, PA also survives.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dan (Rose) Kennedy, and sisters Ruth (George) King and Mary Lou (Bill) Bordas.

Carol was very active in her church and raising her family, as well as working in administrative careers  through the years.  She was afraid of dogs and swimming; and was very adamant that her children would be swimmers and animal lovers.  Her spiritual gifts were hospitality and encouragement. She loved to be involved in any project her friends or family could dream up.  She was also generous to many causes, from BOSMA (Care for the Blind), Indiana Talking Books, Second Helpings, Wheeler Mission, and the needs of her church.

Carol met Phil in Columbus, Ohio and married in 1959.  They raised their family in Indianapolis and Carmel, Indiana.  They traveled extensively and touched all the continents except Antarctica.  Their favorite trips included Australia, South Africa, and a safari in Kenya/Tanzania.  They attended Carmel United Methodist Church and had a large group of friends at the Barrington of Carmel, in their old neighborhood New Britton Woods in Fishers, and through their marriage enrichment group from East 91^st Street Church.

In lieu of flowers, tax deductible donations can be made to the ‘Phillip and Carol McAteer Education Fund’, which is an endowment that assists local Residents with both GED and Trade School expenses.
