Carol Anne Downton

Carol Anne Downton, 77, of Indianapolis Indiana passed away February 7, 2021 at Bickford of Carmel. She was born on November 15, 1943 in Indianapolis to the late Clarence E. and Dolores A. Downton.

Carol graduated from Holy Trinity Grade School in 1957, Saint Mary Academy in 1961 and attended Marian College before receiving her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Finance and Business from Christopher Newport University.  Carol spent most of her working life in Newport News and Williamsburg, Virginia where she worked as a purchasing agent in the shipbuilding industry for over 35 years. Upon her retirement, she moved back to Indianapolis where she spent time with her family and friends.

Carol enjoyed many interests such as photography, traveling, horses, shopping, music, crafts and cooking. Most importantly, she loved to laugh.  Carol was twice an Indy 500 Festival Princess.

Carol is preceded in passing by her parents and her sister Donna Hughes.  She is survived by her siblings  Anita Downton, Denis Downton, Galen Downton (Andrea), Maria Downton (Greg Robertson), Lucy Downton (Bettyann Rowe), Marta Myers (Bruce), and nieces and nephews Julie Hughes, Gary Hughes, Jennifer Myers, and Andrew Myers.

Carol passed away after a long illness with dementia.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Indiana.

Services will be held privately.  Interment will follow at Washington Park East cemetery.
