Carol Ann Shimer

Carol Ann (Thompson) Shimer, age 90, a life-long resident of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019. 

She was born on December 7, 1928 in Indianapolis, as the youngest of 10 children born to the late Edgar L. and Hazel E. (Bridgins) Thompson.  Following her graduation from Arsenal Tech High School in 1946, she began work in the Engineering Department of Bell Telephone Company.  Carol later worked as a secretary at Shimer and Associates Architects and in 1992, retired from the International Headquarters of the Christian Church where she served as the Executive Secretary to the Vice President of Finance in the Department of Ministry.  She also served as the coordinator of the department support staff.  For 5 more years, Carol volunteered as a remedial reading tutor in elementary schools across Indianapolis.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise (Shimer) Robertson, and her husband Donald; granddaughters, Michelle (Robertson) Heltzel, and her husband, Joseph; Angela Robertson Grady, and her husband, Michael, and one great grandchild.  Carol was preceded in death by her parents; all of her siblings; and her husband of 61 years, Thomas Shimer, Jr.

A private graveside service was held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Indianapolis.  A public memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Hoosier Village on Saturday, July 13, 2019 with visitation from 1-3 p.m. with service beginning at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.  Arrangements entrusted to Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park.
