Carl H. Summers, 91 passed away at home on May 25, 2017. He was born on January 1, 1926 to William G. and Essie L. Summers.
Carl graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and later served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked at the General Motors Truck and Bus plant for over 41 years. He was a charter member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church and member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion post 500 in Speedway. Carl was also a member of the church Men's club.
During his life he enjoyed serving others in his church community. Carl coached girl's kickball for over 20 years. With this commitment to volunteering, he was awarded the CYO St. John Bosco Award and Monsignor Albert Busald Award. Carl also volunteered at the Society of Saint DePaul and delivered meals to those in need.
After Carl's retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, gardening, and watching sports. He was dedicated to his faith, family, church, and community.
Carl is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Lois Jane (Gillie). Sons, Thomas Summers, Christopher Summers. Brother, Lloyd (Dick) Summers.
Carl is survived by Mark S. Summers, Susan M. Blackwell, Ann M. Faires, Jane A. Summers, Nancy A. Andretti (John), and Gregory H. Summers (Pammi). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 6000 W. 34th St. from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with a mass of Christian burial at 1:00pm. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
