Carl F. Rothe
86, of Indianapolis, died on February 1, 2016, was born in Lima, Ohio, son of Calvin H. and Katharine Rothe. He attended Heibelberg College and earned Bachelor of Science (summa cum laude), Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Ohio State University. After service as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, he joined the faculty of the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1958, serving as a distinguished teacher and researcher until his retirement in 2000. He served on the IUPUI Faculty Council and was active in several academic and scientific organizations. He was a dedicated volunteer for First Congregational United Church of Christ, the Indiana-Kentucky Conference of the United Church of Christ, and United Church Homes. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, daughter Sarah K. Whitfield, son Thomas H. Rothe, grandsons Jason (Gretchen) and Jeffrey Lee, and great-grandson Jason, Jr. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 1 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 7171 N. Pennsylvania Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240. Arrangements handled by Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple.
