Camilo Maldonado Ontiveros
87, of Indianapolis, passed away April 11, 2020. He was born on July 18, 1932 in Cardenas, Mexico as the son of Anastasio and Santos Ontiveros.
Camilo’s love was his family. He learned life’s obstacles at an early age in Mexico. He was married 32 years with Catalina Ontiveros, a family of twelve, six girls, and six boys. He admired learning life at an early age. He worked as a migrant worker in Homestead FL. He’s favorite thing was to work on cars, he taught himself to be a great mechanic, and he was a hard worker all his life. He loved challenges in life, one was, taking things apart and putting them back together. He didn’t know how to read or write, yet as a migrant worker, he required leaving Homestead and driving out to States that had work by memorizing curtain land marks, and depended on his kids to read the signs, and ask how to get from one State to another. He traveled to North Carolina, Alabama, Texas, Michigan, and as he got older in age, he resided in Indianapolis where he was employed with IUPUI/grounds until he retired. Based on all his stories, which he loved to tell every chance he had, he would always said “God blessed him in his life’s journey”, no matter how hard it was, he believed God was with him always. He saw himself as being blessed throughout his life. He set down and told us stories, and would say that if he would tell us his entire life’s journey, it would take him a year or more.
Camilo is survived by five daughters: Maria C. Gonzalez of Las Vegas, NV; Minerva Ontiveros of Indianapolis, IN; Lupe Aranjo of South Bend, IN; Marisela Ontiveros (Alfredo Delgado) of South Bend, IN; and Mercedes (Raul Lopez) of South Bend, IN. Along with three son’s: Camilo Ontiveros Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; Jesus Ontiveros of South Bend, IN; Gerardo Ontiveros of South Bend, IN; and Juan M. Rodriguez of El Paso, TX who he raised as his own. He was a grandfather of 27 grandkids, 44 great grandkids, and 3 great great grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his only love, wife Catalina Ontiveros; first born, Juan Ontiveros; Martin Ontiveros; Armando Ontiveros; along with one daughter, Gloria M. Ontiveros.
