C. Eugene -Gene- Hendricks

C. Eugene “Gene” Hendricks, age 83 of Camby passed away on February 17, 2017. He was born August 31, 1933 in Bloomfield, Indiana to Farvel and Marjorie M. Hendricks, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Solsberry High School in 1951 and served in Korea in the US Army. He married Wanda Faye Frye on October 20, 1956. They made Camby their home in 1962. Gene worked as a diesel mechanic for Cummins before acquiring Sheets Trucking, Inc. in 1977. In 1981 he purchased Petro’s Tire Service, expanding it to 9 stores before selling to Pomp’s Tire Service in 2007. He retired in 2008. Gene was a member of West Newton United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and served on several committees. He served as chairman of the Decatur Lions Club, and was involved in the Indiana Motor Truck Association, and the Indiana Illinois Tire Dealers Association where he served as chairman. He also served on the City County Council. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling and spending time with his family.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Virgil Frye, sisters, Evalena Wratten and Elnora Larsen and grandson, Aaron Norwood. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Wanda, his daughters, Charlyn Miller and Leah (David) Coppess, grandchildren, Rachel (Kurt) Herzog, Bryan (Kristi) Coppess, Brent (Heidi) Coppess, Rebekah Norwood, Breana (Seth Bedell) Coppess and Jordan (Emma) Miller, and great-grandchildren, Tatiana Perez, Tanner Bedell, Lillian Miller, Makenzie Coppess, Madilyn Coppess and Aaron Miller.

Friends may visit from 4-8 PM Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at West Newton United Methodist Church, 6843 Mendenhall Road, Indianapolis, IN 46221 with a celebration of Gene’s life at 1 PM Wednesday at the church. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan – Decatur Township, 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis.
