Budd Junior Vandegriff, age 92, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, March 25, at home in Fishers, Indiana.
He is survived by his long time love, Barbara Zilm, of Fishers, Indiana. 9 children; Patrick, Christopher, Jo Anne, Thomas, Paul, Nicholas, James, Mary Hensley, Marci Burk. Brother, Joe (Elaine) Vandegriff, their son, Jon (Sharon) Vandegriff, and their four children, Elizabeth, Johan, Celeste, Lincoln; his niece Joan (Hubert) Tien and their two children Dessie and Cora. Sister, Janice (Don) Burt, and their children Kristen, Richard and Carl. Sister-in-law Sue Vandegriff and her children David Gene Vandegriff and Jennifer Mitcheltree. Niece Jill Clayton and nephew David Bruce Vandegriff. And many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Budd was preceded in death by his parents, Verlan and Viola Vandegriff of Muncie, Indiana; Spouse Charlotte Vandegriff, of Muncie, Indiana; Their two children Judith Vandegriff and Brian Vandegriff; Brothers Charles (Janet) Vandegriff and David Vandegriff.
Educational History /Professional History
Budd was born in Muncie, Indiana on June 27, 1929. He graduated from Muncie Central High School and then enlisted in the Navy for two years. He subsequently attended classes at Ball State University and spent 43 years working for Borg Warner, Muncie as a an accountant retiring in 1990. After retirement Budd continued to work as a consultant for Borg Warner, New Bedford, MA in the Marine Industrial division.
Personal
Budd was married to his wife Charlotte for over 50 years with whom he raised 11 children in the Muncie area until 1991 when they moved to Fishers, Indiana.
He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Muncie and was a member of the Knights of Columbus there. Budd has been a member of Our Lady of Grace, Noblesville, IN for over 20 years.
Budd was an IU basketball fan and followed Bob Knight’s career. He also enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts especially when they won! He was an avid gardener growing Indiana “maters”, fishing, bird watching, writing and telling stories and reading. He enjoyed traveling with Barb especially to Marco Island, FL. He had a knack with animals which earned him the unofficial title of “Dr. Doolittle”. He had fun playing Euchre especially with his brother Dave and attending the Fishers Freedom Festival activities every year. Budd was also a great organizer of neighborhood gatherings in the cul de sac and loved his church friends known as the “Sunday Coffee Muggers”.
Those who loved Budd will miss his quiet unassuming manner, great sense of humor, strong faith and positive outlook on life.
A service will be held on Thursday, May 5th at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Grace, 9900 East 191st St, Noblesville, IN 46060 with a reception at the church to follow. Immediately after Budd will be laid to rest at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie, Indiana.
