Brent Alan Shumate,

61, of Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017. He was born October 2, 1956 in Greencastle, Indiana to Darell and Wilma Shumate.

Brent worked for the Martinsville Post Office as a mail carrier for 10 years, and then for the Indianapolis Post Office for another 20 years from 1991 to 2011. He loved his career as a mail carrier, but his family came first. Family was everything to Brent. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and son.

Brent was preceded in death by his daughter, Cristal Shumate. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Melinda Shumate; his parents, Darell and Wilma Shumate; children, Cristopher, Colin and Meleeza; grandchildren, Austin, Elizabeth, Elijah, Justyce, Mason and Ophelia; great grandchild, Willow; and his beloved dog, Layla.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 4pm-8pm at Flanner Buchanan-Floral Park, 425 North Holt Road, Indianapolis. An additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 21 from 11am-1pm with funeral services to immediately follow at 1pm.
