Blanche Cobb Ferguson

93, died peacefully on Sunday, April 24, 2016, with her three children at her side.

Blanche was a friend to many, as well as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and teacher. She was born in Hartwell, Georgia and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1943, and later earned her master’s degree from Butler University in Indianapolis. Mrs. Ferguson taught for 5 years in Columbus, GA., where she met and married Earl Alfred Ferguson in 1947. They moved first to St. Louis and then to Indianapolis in 1952, where they had the great fortune of choosing the Circle Boulevard neighborhood that became the cornerstone of their life.

Blanche taught home economics at Thomas Carr Howe High School. After her retirement from teaching, she became state legislative chair for Indiana’s AARP. She was an elder at Northwood Christian Church and one-time president of Northwood’s Christian Women’s Fellowship.

Her husband Earl predeceased her in 1999. She moved to The Forum in 2009, where she received attentive and loving care.

Mrs. Ferguson is survived by her three children: Jim (Deborah) Ferguson of Wilmette, IL; Larry Ferguson of Louisville, CO; and Ann Ness (Doug), of Deephaven, MN. Also surviving are three cherished grandchildren, Amanda Ferguson of Berkeley, CA, Andrew Ferguson of New York, NY, and Abby Ness of Deephaven, MN. A sister Sara Friedsam of Galveston, TX, and sisters-in-law Bette Cobb of Savannah, GA and Veva Ferguson of Mountain Home, ID as well as many loving nieces and nephews in Georgia and throughout the country also survive her.

Blanche Ferguson is perhaps best remembered for her gracious spirit and a deep and abiding love for her family and friends. Her laugh would fill up a room; hers was a bright and intelligent humor that enriched many lives. She enjoyed a 65-year friendship with her best friend and neighbor Bea Borman Fink and the entire Fink family.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Northwood Christian Church at 46th and Central with the Rev. Rae Karim officiating. Visitation will follow.

Burial will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C., where Earl was laid to rest.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Northwood Christian Church, where Blanche was a member for over 60 years, or to the charity of your choice.
