Beverly Marie Stratman

Beverly Owens Stratman, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. She was 91 years old. Beverly was born on December 7, 1930, in Decatur, Illinois to Alice and George Owens.

Beverly was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Butler and Opel Brennan and her brother Robert Owens. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marty Stratman, and son David Stratman.

While growing up in Decatur, Beverly competed in roller skating and water-skiing competitions. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1949 and married her sweetheart Marty in November 1949.

Beverly and Marty eventually moved to Chicago, Illinois then on to Cincinnati, Ohio settling in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1967.

Beverly worked for many years at Harcourt Elementary in various roles. Ultimately Beverly went to work for and retired from Alpha Chi Omega sorority as a collegiate services representative. A position she truly loved. Beverly also volunteered for many years for the Delaware Trails Little League organization, Harcourt Elementary PTO and Pleasant View Lutheran Church where she was a long-time member. In her adult life, Beverly was a keen bridge player, participated in bowling leagues and took up golf upon retiring to Florida.
Beverly is survived by her son Steven Stratman and daughter Karen (Chris) Mahoney. She is also survived by her grandchildren Joshua Stratman, William Mahoney and Maggie Mahoney.

Beverly had a terrific sense of humor, the humility required to easily laugh at herself and a deep abiding love for her family. She took particular joy in watching her grandchildren grow into adults. She will be profoundly missed.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 20 from 5PM to 7PM at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park North 2706 Kessler Blvd West Drive. A Funeral service will immediately follow visitation.
