Beverly Jane Raikos was born in Atalissa, Iowa to Howard and Dorothy Owen on January 12, 1926 and passed away on July 29, 2017. Beverly grew up in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and later, Davenport, Iowa. At the age of 18, she met Andrew “Andy” Raikos, who swept her off her feet, and their journey began. They married in 1946 and settled in Indianapolis, having 3 children, Pamela, James, and Denisa.
In the 1960’s, Beverly combined her keen sense of style with an entrepreneurial spirit and opened a ladies fashion clothing store, Parkway Boutique, in the stately Marrott Hotel. She later opened Courtyard Cottage, “The Shop for Fine Lingerie,” on the north side of Indianapolis in 1973, introducing the city of Indianapolis to exclusive imported French, Italian, and Swiss lingerie and sleepwear. Her daughter, Denisa, joined her in 1979 and they worked side by side for the next 22 years as partners in business.
Beverly enjoyed many travels to Europe and abroad, but could not overcome her intense fear of flying. She bravely stared down her fear by obtaining her private pilot’s license in the 1970’s. Something her family still can’t believe to this day. Disappointed by the flimsy pilot wings they pinned on her for her achievement, she founded Airway Boutique where she designed, marketed, and sold beautiful gold wings more worthy of the accomplishment.
Beverly’s beauty, grace, and love will be greatly missed but forever remembered.
Beverly was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 40 years, Andy Raikos, and her sister Donna Jones. Survivors include daughters Pamela and Denisa Raikos, son James Raikos (Jeanette), granddaughters Mary and Sophia Raikos, grandson Andrew Raikos, sister Mary Lou Roberds and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Heartland of Beavercreek for the care that they provided their mother during her stay, with a special thank you to Dr. Cherish Prutzman, whose compassion and warmth has been so deeply appreciated, and to Jeremy Wessel, whose expertise and concern for Beverly made such a difference.
