Beverly Ann Duffer, 81, of Indianapolis, Ind., died Jan. 15 at the Community Heart and Vascular Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born Feb. 27, 1941, in Elwood, Ind., as Beverly Ann Baker, she was the daughter of Alfred and Grace Baker. On May 30, 1962, Bev married V. Clifford Duffer.
Bev graduated from Beech Grove High School in 1958. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing, and later a master’s degree in adult education, both from Indiana University.
Bev worked as a registered nurse in Gulfport, Miss., and Waverly, Iowa, while Cliff was serving in the United States Air Force. After returning to Indianapolis, she was a preschool teacher at Old Bethel United Methodist Church before resuming her nursing career. She worked on the mother-baby and neonatal intensive care units at Community Hospital East before becoming the first wellness coordinator for the Community Health network.
Bev later worked in the insurance industry as a nurse case manager before retiring.
A lifelong volunteer, Bev was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi philanthropic sorority and the International Order of the King’s Daughters and Sons. Over the years, she was an active member of the King’s Daughters’ Mabel Wingfield (later Earnest Wingfield) Circle. She also served as president and secretary of the Indiana branch, as well as camp counselor of their summer camp for girls in southern Indiana. Bev also served as international junior director with the international order.
Bev was a long-time member of Old Bethel UMC on the Indianapolis eastside, later attending St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. While living in the Britton Falls neighborhood in Fishers from 2008 to 2022, she helped to lead a women’s Bible study.
Bev is survived by her husband, Cliff; daughters Teresa McClain (Marty), Angela Roberts (Joseph) and Sheila Butler; granddaughters Anne Mei McClain, Eleanor McClain, Eve Roberts and Allison Roberts; and brother Ronald Baker (Joyce). She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation for Bev will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023 at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, Ind., 46229, with a funeral service immediately following at 2 p.m. Entombment will take place at Washington Park East Cemetery.
