Beverly Ann Taylor

Indianapolis, IN

Beverly Ann Taylor, 77, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on June 9th after a short battle with an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer. The daughter of Charles “Charlie” and Myra Bumb, she began her amazing life in Indianapolis on May 11, 1946. She graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1964 and became a flight attendant for United Air Lines based at Chicago’s O’Hare airport soon after. “Bevie” met her soulmate and soon-to-be husband/best friend, Royce “Roy” Taylor one glorious day as he was part of the United Airlines ground crew servicing her airplane. The two married in January 1968, moved to Indy from Chicago, and started their family with the births of their 3 sons. As a policeman’s wife of noble character (Proverbs 31:10-31), she lived out her faith in quiet, remarkable ways. After raising her boys while working odd jobs to help make ends meet, she graduated from the IU School of Nursing at IUPUI in 1992 with an Associate of Science degree in nursing, with distinction.

Bev was a big sports fan, so you would often see her watching her sons play baseball at Haverford Little League, CYO football, or track, baseball, and football at Cathedral High School. Bev was also a huge Chicago Cubs fan. There were great memories of her and Roy watching the WGN broadcasts of the Cubbies with Harry Caray and Steve Stone or watching NFL Football and rooting for our Indianapolis Colts.

Another favorite part of Bev’s life was Ludington, Michigan where she first visited with friends while in high school. There were many summers that you would find the Taylor family swimming in the lake, playing on the beach, running up and down sand dunes, and camping at Ludington State Park. Ludington was their “Happy Place” and the source of amazing memories over the years.

Bev was such a kind soul who treated everyone with respect. She made the world a better place by listening to friends and strangers alike with a compassionate heart. She loved her family very much and looked forward to annual gatherings including holidays, Kentucky Derby parties, picnics at Broad Ripple Park, birthdays, Labor Day weekends at Lake Tippy, bridge tournaments, family reunions at Pokagon State Park, and other activities that included her grandkids’ programs and sporting events. She will be sorely missed by all.

Bev was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Myra Bumb, her brother Scott, and husband Roy to whom she was married for 45 years. She is survived by her children: Royce Jr “Rowdy” (Traci), Theodore “Ted,” and Scott (Katie); Sisters: Barbara (Michael), Bonnie (Russ); and several beloved nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3pm on Saturday, June 24th at Common Ground Christian Church, Midtown – 4550 North Illinois Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208. In lieu of flowers, please volunteer at or make gifts of support to Cathedral High School, Haverford Little League, the VA and Wheeler Mission or just pause to notice someone in need of encouragement and place a rolled up $20 on their windshield like mom often did.
