Bettye Lou Dee (Wood), 88, transitioned from her earthly life February 4, 2023, at Hooverwood Living. She was born November 18, 1934, in Glasgow, Ky, the daughter of John Moss and May Lucille (Southers) Wood.
Bettye Lou graduated from Ralph Bunch High School Class of 1950. Following graduation, she attended Kentucky State College, graduating in 1954. Following college, she relocated to Indianapolis, IN and married Lowery Richard Rogers. In 1958, one son was born from this union.
After working several years in various capacities, Bettye Lou returned to school to obtain a master’s degree in special education. She successfully completed her studies in 1984 and went on to follow her mother into the teaching profession. She began her career in IPS, teaching at Broad Ripple and Arlington High Schools. She retired from her career in 2000 after teaching in Washington Township schools Harcourt Elementary and North Central High School.
Following retirement, Bettye Lou pursued her passions to travel the world and spoil her granddaughters. She also continued her service to society as part of Delta Sigma Theta where she was active since 1953. A member of the “Red Hat Society” she was considered a “Delta Dear”. Additionally, Bettye Lou was an active member of the “Fortnightly Book Club”.
Bettye Lou served for many years as a faithful member of Witherspoon Presbyterian Church where she served in Christian Education, Evangelism, Vacation Bible School, the PWOW Women’s Ministry, and was ordained an Elder. Her faith was strong, and her love of God and His Church was evident to all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bettye Lou was predeceased by her brother, John Moss Wood, Jr. Surviving in addition to her son Eric Dylan Rogers (Indianapolis, IN) are her granddaughters, Anjela Monique Rogers (Indianapolis, IN) and Ashlee Marie Rogers (Memphis, TN), her great-granddaughter, Tamaya Queen Pugh (Indianapolis, IN), her cousin, Carol Marie Wood (Indianapolis, IN), her nieces Vallerie Jean Wood (Lawrenceville, GA) and Victoria Lynn Parker (Kerry) (Lawrenceville, GA) a nephew, Darnell Carbin (Yvonne)(Buckeye, AZ) and a host of cousins, grand nieces and nephews, lifelong friends, former co-workers and well-wishers.
