Betty J. (Vandivier) Ponich

February 13, 1931 — January 20, 2025

Indianapolis

Betty J. Vandivier Ponich, 93, of Indianapolis, Indiana went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 20, 2025. She was born in Indianapolis on February 13, 1931, to her parents, Harry and Lelah Vandivier who both proceeded her in death. Betty was a faithful, longtime member of Greenfield Christian Church.

She could best be remembered for the way she could make friends and enfold loved ones into her life as her family. As well, she enjoyed clipping and sharing coupons.

Betty was a dedicated employee at Indianapolis Thermal Processing from 1962-1990 and then Indy Honeycomb Products, Inc. from 1991 to her retirement in 1996.

In earlier years, Betty enjoyed delivering gifts and candy to the children of her cousin, Barbara Mitchell, and then being married to Nick Ponich as together they loved their Dachshunds and numerous visits to flea markets and coin shops.

In recent years, she loved being active in the Naomi Circle at Greenfield Christian Church and being one of the hostesses for the coffee hour there on Sunday mornings. Then later as she resided at Rosewalk of Lutherwood in Indianapolis she loved making friends and joining in the planned social activities.

Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband, Mark N. (Nick) Ponich as well as those she called her family: Dale and Barbara Mitchell, Lennis (Len) Mitchell, Robert Allen. Betty is survived by others considered to be her family such as her loving niece, Ellen Mitchell; Janet Schantz, Bruce Mtchell (Kim), Judy Wells (Joe), Jill Whitehurst (Allen) as well as numerous MItchell and Allen family members which include John Allen (Martha), Larry Allen, Cheryl Christen (Paul). 

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, from 10AM to 11AM at Greenfield Christian Church, 23 N East St. Greenfield, IN, 46140. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11AM. She will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, Indiana. Her graveside service will be there at 3PM.
