Betty J. Schmidt

Betty Jane Schmidt, 92, of Indianapolis, passed away on November 7^th, 2022.

She was born in Indianapolis on June 13^th, 1930, to parents Bernard and Dorothy Cleary.

She entered the convent of the Sisters of St. Francis in 1952, and remained teaching there until 1971.

After returning home, she taught school at St. Catherine’s and Our Lady of Lourdes.

In 1979, She married the love of her life, Hubert Schmidt. They shared over 30 wonderful years together.

Betty is survived by her sisters and brothers: Richard Cleary (The Late Sharlene), Thomas Cleary (Nell), Carolyn Cleary Moulton (Richard), Larry Cleary (Paula), Linda Cleary Maines (The Late Mike), Leo Cleary (Anna); sister-in-law Marlene Thomas Cleary and Mary Long Cleary; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 30 years Hubert Schmidt; brothers Paul E. Cleary and David Cleary.

Betty was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, “Sister Dorothea”, teacher and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Visitation for Betty will be Friday, November 11^th, at St. Mark Catholic Church from 10am-11:30am. Her Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30am. She will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Indianapolis.

We are all grateful that we had Betty in our lives. In lieu of flowers, and in Betty’s honor, do an act of kindness for someone today.
