Bette Jane (Combs) Green, passed away on February 7, 2021. Bette was born in Bloomfield, Indiana on February 28, 1940 to parents, Max and Lena (Randalls) Combs. She graduated from Bloomfield High School and attended Indiana Central College.
During her career, Bette worked as Assistant Director of Transportation for Perry Township Schools.
Bette loved life, her family and was always looking forward to her next adventure. She was incredibly creative and her many talents could be seen in her paintings, prize winning quilts, as well as her home decorating. Bette loved to laugh and spend time with her family and many friends. A good friend this week described her saying, “you didn’t just meet Bette, you experienced her.”
Bette, a cancer survivor, was proud of her volunteer work at Community Hospital East Cancer Ward. She was head of the Cancer Guild there, an organization that she started, and set up a charity with the hospital to help support those living with cancer and to fund research. Bette was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the Stephen’s Ministry and sang in the choir. She was a world traveler, visiting 28 countries in her lifetime. Bette was also a past-President of the Board at Imperial Golf Club (Naples, FL).
Bette is survived by her husband, Bill Green; children: Andra Eason (former spouse, Steve Eason), Keith Bridwell, Lori Hohlt (Eric), Kristie Tuttle (Steve) and her adopted daughters Kathy Barrett (Dave) and Jennifer Johnson; grandchildren: Brianna Eason, Nicholas Hohlt, Kylie Hohlt and Matthew Hohlt; and brother, Michael Combs (Brenda).
Memorial services will be held privately at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens on Friday, February 12, 2021. Services may be viewed virtually after 11 am at https://youtu.be/YSn9szhe7KE. Interment will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
