Bernard Stephen Perry

August 5, 1949 — March 16, 2022

New Palestine, Indiana

Bernard Stephen Perry, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle went to his heavenly home at the age of 72 on March 16, 2022 after a long battle with ocular melanoma.  He was born in Indianapolis to the late William and Kathleen (O’Donnell) Perry on August 5, 1949.

Bernie married the love of his life, Catherine Phares, on February 16th, 1980.  They were blessed with three beautiful daughters and five precious grandchildren and another grandson on the way.  Papa was very proud of them and adored them more than anything.

Bernie graduated in 1967 from Cathedral High School and received a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and a Master’s degree from Indiana State University.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Military Policeman in the 759th MP Battalion from 1969 to 1971.  He worked in Human Resource Management for 30 years prior to starting 3-D Landscaping in 2001, which he continued to manage until his death.  Bernie was active in his community and served as past president of the New Palestine Chamber of Commerce.  He loved to play golf and was a huge fan of Indiana University basketball, Notre Dame football, the Colts, and the Masters Tournament.  His greatest joy was spending time with his family

Bernie was preceded in death by his beloved parents, William and Kathleen Perry; brother, William Perry, Jr; and sister, Elizabeth Gilbert.

His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his wife of 42 years, Catherine Perry; daughters Desiree Perry, Dawn (Jason) Ruffer, and Danielle (Richard) Bowman; grandchildren, Gabriella, Braxton, Justine, Makenna, and Cassidy; brothers, Robert (Laura) Perry, Chris (Teri) Perry, Ed (Cheryl) Perry, Mike (Patty) Perry; sisters Mary (Steve) Swanson, Teresa (Mike) Henry, Kathy (Terry) Huser, and Julie (Joe) Phelan; thirty nieces and nephews and a cadre of great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St, Indianapolis, Indiana on Sunday, March 20 from 2 to 6 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Parish at Geist, 10350 Glaser Way, Fishers, Indiana on Monday, March 21 at 1 PM. Entombment will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 9001 Haverstick Road, Indianapolis, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Ocular Melanoma Foundation, 1717 K St NW, Suite 900, Washington, DC 20006.
