Bernadine Ruth (Shuler) Burnett, 99, a long-time resident of Speedway, passed peacefully on November 8, 2016 at Hoosier Village Health Center in Indianapolis. She was born on October 8, 1917 in Morgan County, to Emil B. Shuler and Maggie Dee (Stierwalt) Shuler. She married Quentin Burnett in 1946 after he returned from WW II military service in the Philippines. She was the secretary-treasurer of the Morgan Co. Farm Bureau and also worked at Eli Lilly & Co. and First Bank and Trust in Speedway. Her husband, parents, and 3 siblings predeceased her. She is survived by her three children, Debbie (Bruce) Smith, Tom (Marcia) Burnett, and Jenny (Gary) Moon, along with 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Besides her family, she loved gardening, playing cards, breakfast cookouts in the backyard with neighbors, and the annual drawing of drivers' names with family and friends before the Indy 500-Mile Race. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Flanner & Buchanan-Speedway, where calling will begin at 9 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Speedway Christian Church and the Alzheimer’s Association.
