Bernadine Lee (Daniels) Wesner passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 at the age of 88. She was born November 15, 1928 in Granite City, Illinois, the first of the five children of Ernest Lee and Ruth Adeline Daniels. After moving to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1943, Bernadine worked for a time at Prudential Insurance before being swept off her feet by her future husband, Ned C. Wesner, at church one fateful Sunday. After they married April 30, 1950, Bernadine traded her time card for diaper pins and devoted her life to raising the seven children that she and Ned brought into the world.
Bernadine and Ned were just a few days shy of celebrating their 57th anniversary when Ned passed on April 28, 2007.
Bernadine was happiest when she was surrounded by her family. Gatherings with the extended family always included games – and Bernadine was a competitive and formidable player, no matter what was being played. Euchre, Pinochle, Thirty-One and Dominoes were among her favorites – but none of these could compare to her love for Bingo. Bingo loved her too – she had an uncanny knack for winning. During the last year at Arlington Place, she won so many times that she was continually running out of space in her room for all of the prizes.
Throughout her life, Bernadine was propelled by insatiable wanderlust. Whether that meant camping in the Smokies with the family, or traveling to her 50th state (Alaska) with Ned, or just taking an aimless drive through Indiana backroads, traveling and discovering new places satisfied her restless spirit.
Bernadine is survived by her children, Phill Wesner (Norma), Dan Wesner, Diane Wesner, Cindy Alchin (Dave), Carole Haskamp (Tom), Laura Lindenbusch (Rob), and Kathy Wesner (Kris). She is also survived by her sisters June Daniels and Marian Duemling (William) and her brother F. Peter Daniels (Betty). She was preceded in death by her husband Ned and her brother Ernest Lee Daniels, Jr. Bernadine also treasured her grandchildren Melissa, Zachary (Sarah), Kyle, James, Kate, Riley and Rebecca, and her great-grandchildren Abby, Ayla, Declan, Lily, Emily, Isaiah and Tyler.
Services to celebrate Bernadine’s life will be held at 11:00 Wednesday, March 22 at Flanner and Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), located at 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 21 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels.
