Beatrice Hodges, 98, passed away on December 22, 2020 in Fishers, Indiana.
Beatrice was born in York, Alabama to Joe Nelson and Edith Ward Nelson on July 4, 1922. She dedicated her life to Christ at a young age and joined Mt. Pleasant Church of God. She remained a faithful member until her marriage to the love of her life, Reverend Huston Hodges.
Beatrice was the consummate minister’s wife. Many called her the First Lady as Reverend Hodges pastored Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) congregations from Ohio to Pennsylvania to Kentucky and finally Tennessee. She had a heart for children and concentrated on the Child Care ministry and Youth/Young Adult services. Beatrice loved music expressed in her participation in the gospel choir. She continuously honed her piano skills throughout her life and was known for spontaneously striking a tune.
Missionary and Stewardess organizations were no stranger to her. The hymn “If I can Help Somebody” embodies how Beatrice lived her life. “Pass Me Not, Oh Gentle Savior” expressed her desire to be with Christ and that desire has now been fulfilled.
Beatrice is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reverend Huston Hodges and son, William Hodges. Her parents, Joe Nelson and Edith Ward and sisters, Essie and Jessie also welcome Beatrice to the great cloud of believers.
Beatrice is survived by her daughter Vicky Grimes (Kevin), granddaughter, Elizabeth and grandson, Kevin.
Invitation Only Visitation will be December 30, 2020 at 1:30PM. at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with interment at 2:00PM. Please follow the CDC recommendations and wear a cloth face mask and follow social distancing guidelines.
The family of Beatrice Hodges wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Tony Link and staff of Allisonville Meadows for their unwavering support during her residency. We acknowledge all words of comfort and kindnesses shown by extended family and friends during this bereavement period.
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also. – John 14:2-3
