Barbara L. Wood

Barbara LaVerne May Wood was born June 29th, 1927, and passed away December 5th, 2024. She was active and independent each day of her 97+ years. Barbara was the daughter of Walter A. and Merle. M. May. She was married to Billy Wood from 1949 until his death in 1989. She is survived by her sons Richard (Carol) and Douglas (Colleen); three grandchildren Mary Barbara Marti, Andrew Wood, Kaylee Gasser, and six great-grandchildren.

Barbara was a graduate of Ben Davis High School., Indiana University, and Butler University. She was a physical education teacher and guidance counselor for Indianapolis Public Schools serving at Thomas Carr How High School, School 77, and Day Adult High school. Barbara was an instructor in the OASIS program for twelve years. She was past State President of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority, and a member and Elder at Irvington Presbyterian Church. The last years of her life were spent at Westminster Village North.

At Barbara’s request, there will be no calling and no funeral. Interment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery.
