Barbara Jean Kacer
Barbara Jean Kacer, 82, of Brownsburg, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017. Born January 22, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Lindstrom and Helen Teresa Lindstrom.
A loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she loved her lord Jesus Christ, her family and the hapless Chicago Cubs. As a young girl in Chicago she would listen nightly to the Cubs games on the radio and diligently record the box scores. She celebrated as loudly as any Cub fan in the land when they finally won the Word Series in 2016 and planned each of her summer days around the time of their ballgames.
As a young woman she became a registered nurse and spent the first two years of her career as a courier nurse for the Santa Fe railroad traveling from Chicago to the west coast and back each week. It was in an era where train travel was at its height providing her the opportunity to meet and care for many ball teams and celebrities who were crisscrossing the country. She also worked for the Pronger-Smith clinic and the Indiana State School as a nurse throughout her career.
Barbara had a second career as a Librarian working in the Plainfield Public Library for more than a decade. A passionate reader who was filled with creativity she was also a published author with 4 books to her credit.
In 1961 she married Daniel John Kacer and together they had three children; Michael, Yvonne and Erika. Barb and Dan were married for 52 years before he preceded her in death in 2013.
She is survived by her 3 children and their spouses, Michael & Tacy (Decker) Kacer, Yvonne (Kacer) & Larry Higashi, Erika Kacer & Joe Abiog, her sister Carol Elliott of Havana, IL, sister-in-law Amy Canner of Hammond, IN, Mike & Janet Kacer of Highland, IN, grandchildren Alexandra & Rachel Kacer, Tanner & Kacer Anderson, Kyle Higashi, Sabrina (Higashi) & Peter Evans and great grandchildren Robbie, Kate, Greyson & Silas.
