Barbara A. (Day)Gallagher, Jr., 81, Carmel, passed away September 4, 2024. She was born September 23, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of the late William A. Day and Anna (Jones) Day. She married the late Thomas A. Gallagher on March 16, 1963.
Barbara grew up with a love of visiting the Jersey Shore and hunting for shells. She also began beauty contests as a toddler through her college years. Her family relocated to Huntington, IN where she enjoyed playing in the band and her time spent on Lake Barbee. She was a graduate of Huntington High School and continued her education at Purdue University, however, she finished her Bachelor of Science degree in Education at Butler University.
Barbara was involved in society philanthropies as a member of Starlight’s in Indianapolis. She loved being part of her boys’ lives and going on cruises with her husband. She also had a huge love for dogs and cats, often taking in the dogs her sons brought home from Purdue. She also was able to continue her love for finding shells at their place in Long Boat Key, Florida. Barbara was a wonderful grandmother and love to spoil them.
She is survived by her three sons; Thomas III (Beth) Gallagher, Bob (Johanna) Gallagher, and John (Heather) Gallagher; and eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, Taylor, Thomas IV, Trent, Trevor, Nicholas, Phoebe, and Griffin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Hamilton County Humane Society or Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements were entrusted to Flanner Buchanan – Carmel.
A Remembrance Gathering will be held, Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Moffitt Farms Clubhouse, 5910 William Connor Way, Carmel, IN 46033.
