Barbara Ann (Whelden) White, 95, Parker CO, died March 6, 2019. She was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Indiana until 2016 when she moved to Colorado to live with daughter Sharon. Born Nov. 15, 1923 to George T. and Mary Ellen Whelden, she attended Shortridge High School and a year at Purdue before enlisting in the Marine Corp in 1944 for two years. She married Edward L. White, Nov 5, 1946, who preceded her in death July 12, 1980. She was an employee at Lambda Chi Alpha National Fraternity Headquarters for 19 years. Among her many accomplishments and experiences, Barbara was a volunteer for 25 years at St. Vincent New Hope, flew over open ocean in a glider plane, was a Marine aircraft mechanic stationed in San Diego and Honolulu, and qualified as a scuba diver on her 65th birthday.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother George T. Whelden, Jr. She is survived by: Daughter, Sharon E. Oliver of Parker CO; Sons, Neil E. White of Indianapolis, William M. White of Odessa, MO; Sister-in-law Joan Whelden of Indianapolis, Grandchildren Brian White, Christopher White, Aaron Oliver, Heather Sanders, Angelle Hall, as well as seven Great Grandchildren and a Great-great Grandson.
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Flanner Buchanan- Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Avenue, Indianapolis, where her memorial services will immediately follow beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow services at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
