Avanell Coffey, 87, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away with family by her side on Sunday, April 14, 2019. Avanell was born in Columbia, KY on November 7, 1931 to the late Ples and Rosie Burton.
Avanell was a devoted wife of nearly 60 years to the late Gus Coffey and together they had 9 loving children. She was known for her delicious cooking and tidy home. Once the youngest of her children went to school, she went to work at MCL and dedicated many years to the company before retiring.
Avanell is survived by her adoring children, Sandy Church, Janet Smith, Karen Senteney, Donna Hanson, Timothy Coffey, Melinda Hanson, and Anthony Coffey; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Avanell is preceded in death by her late husband, Gus Coffey; children, Percella Coffey and Alberta Strangeway; grandchildren, Jesse Pressley, Robert Strangeway, Madeline Coffey; great-grandchild, Destiney Nicely; and 5 siblings.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 4-8PM at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St. Indianapolis, IN. Funeral services will be held the following day, Friday, April 19, 2019 at 1PM with burial to follow at Washington Park East Cemetery.
