In Remembrance of Augustus Schinderle

Augustus Andrew Schinderle, who also took on the names of Gus, Gucci Gus, Gussy, The Great Gusby, and Gus Bus sprung into this world on November 3, 1995 to his loving family of Cheryl Schinderle, Jack Schinderle, Riley Schinderle, and Rudolph Schinderle. They grew up in a loving home in Noblesville in North Harbour.

Growing up, Gus’s personality shined through his witty humor, gorgeous curly hair, piercing hazel eyes, and his infectious smile. Gus grew up as the youngest child, but it didn’t stop him from standing out. His natural caregiving traits showed at a young age taking care of and adoring his many pets. Even sleeping with his cat, T.J., cradled in his shirts like a baby.

Gus learned these compassionate instincts from his sister, Riley. She entertained Gus and Rudy by playing games together, which showed Gus’s natural luck and his ability to outwit his older siblings. Gus, Riley, and Rudy were incredibly close. They grew up doing everything together, running to the basement to play GameCube then running outside to jump on the trampoline. They tried every sport and game they could.

Gus was active in many sports like karate, soccer, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, and football — of course. Rudy and Gus would spend their summers training for football, learning how to outwit and outplay all the other players with their father’s natural and knowledgeable football skills. As he grew older, he realized that sports meant less to him than his creative ability. Gus was always creative. It likely came from his artistically gifted mother— Riley, as well.

For high school, Gus attended Culver Military Academy. He was notorious for breaking the status quo and standing up to authority, even if it meant wearing mix-matched socks to show he didn’t have to follow the rules. Gus may have had a problem with authority and made it a point to prove that he didn’t need to be told what to do. During his time at Culver, Gus was able to have a great time and always managed to have fun hanging with all his boys and getting into whatever fun they could.

After high school, he saved up money to attend Santa Barbara Community College to study film. Coincidentally, he found his love for writing and his story idea Fight For Heaven. Returning to Indiana, he attended IUPUI to study creative writing, where he met his girlfriend, Mary Claghorn. Although he only was at IUPUI for a semester, he left with a loving girlfriend and a can-do mindset. Gus and Mary went on to see and share beautiful sights and memories. They traveled the country and the world. Mary became an unofficial Schinderle, and after traveling the country, they came back to Indy, only to later travel to Iceland and Cuba. They shared an apartment with Rudy and Yessica, where they got their dog, Todd, who was the reason they didn’t get their deposit back. Once their lease was up, Gus and Mary lived in L.A. during Mary’s internship, after that, they moved into an apartment right across from Rudy and Yessica.

In the time that passed, Gus worked tirelessly on his book. No one scrutinized Gus’s work like he did. Gus was close to finishing his novel, Fight for Heaven, and although he has now won that fight, we would like to finish Gus’s novel in his honor. We are asking for donations to help pay for editing and publishing, so hopefully, Gus’s life’s work can be shared with the world. Please visit https://www.thegreatgusby.com/ to make a donation.

Gus loved everyone near and dear to him and would want them to remember all the wonderful moments he got to spend with them. In this time of great pain, Gus would have wanted everyone to be happy and joyful. He will forever be missed here on Earth but will live on through all the people he infected with his love, high hopes, and loyalty.

Gus is survived by his mother, Cheryl; his father, Jack; his sister, Riley;  his brother, Rudy; his loving girlfriend, Mary Claghorn; his grandparents, Brooke & Loretta Black; his great aunt and uncle, Larry and Judy Burch; his half-siblings: Heidi, Shelby & Tom, and Jack & Barb; his nieces: Marlo, Lexi, and Megan; his nephews: Spencer and Jack; his many loving aunts and uncles: Debbie & Chris Denny, Vonda & Vinnie Recinto, Todd & Erin Black, Brent Black & Teresea Murphy, Rhonda & Donnie Golden, Nola Weston & Rosannne Tousignant, and Bill Schinderle; and his cousins: Adelyn, Samara, Caitlyn, Madison, Brandon, Danika, Dacoda, Joseph, and Cleo.
