Augustine “Tine” Smith Watts went to be with her Lord on November 29, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 74.
Augustine was born January 22, 1944 in Magee, Mississippi to the late Odell Smith and Shellia Mangum Smith. She graduated from the Magee, Mississippi Public Schools. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree from Alcorn State University in Mississippi and after moving to Gary, Indiana received her Masters at Governors State University in Chicago and attended Indiana University for additional studies.
She met the love of her life Willie E. Watts while working as an educator for the Gary School District and spent 36 wonderful years of marriage with Willie. They added to their family with the birth of a daughter Erica. Following their daughter after retiring as an educator for 42 years, Augustine and husband Willie moved to Indianapolis.
Augustine was very active in her church, Lawrence United Methodist where she helped with the bulletins, photos and newsletters. She loved sewing, gardening, and golf. Most of all she loved the moments she could spend with her family especially her grandchildren which were her pride and joy.
She leaves behind her husband Willie E. Watts; daughter Erica Watts Glenn and her husband Kedrick; grandchildren Chanan James Glenn and Ashlyn Augustine Glenn; Brother James Smith and his wife Hortense; special uncle Clyde A. Smith and his wife Doris; favorite sister-in-law Ernestine Marshall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother John Mose Smith and her parents.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Friday, December 7 from 10 AM to 12 PM at Lawrence United Methodist Church, 5200 Shadeland Ave, Indianapolis. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 12 noon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
