Audrey Virginia Wise (Egan)

Audrey V. Wise, 89, of Mooresville, Indiana passed away on October 1, 2018. She was born November 12, 1928 in West Terre Haute, Indiana to Roscoe and Mildred Egan.

She moved to Indianapolis with her family at the age of 18 where she started working at Link Belt. It was there she met the love of her life Gervin Wise. He offered her a ride home one day, she gratefully accepted, and the rest is history. They were married October 4, 1947 and remained deeply in love for almost 50 years until Gervin’s passing in 1995. In 1958, Audrey committed to beauty school after the untimely passing of her brother. Though Audrey didn’t drive, her perseverance shined through as she rode the bus every day until she completed school. She was a very talented hair dresser and successful business owner until she retired in the 1980’s and hung up her shears for good. Most will remember Audrey as a family-oriented woman who loved Las Vegas and the Kentucky Derby. She participated in bowling leagues, euchre clubs, and was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Family remembers her as an independent woman who wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. She was who she was and didn’t need anyone’s approval, we could all learn a thing or two from women like Audrey.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Mildred; husband, Gervin; siblings, Nadine, Carlos, and Ralph. Surviving to cherish her memory are children, Gloria (Tom) Greenwald and Amy (David) Ward; sister, Susan Evans; grandchildren, Julie (Rodney) Gregory and John (Carin) Greenwald; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild as well as a host of extended family members.

Family and friends are invited to visit, Wednesday, October 3 from 11-1 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Decatur Township. Services will take place at 1 PM. Audrey will be laid to rest at West Newton Cemetery immediately following services.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Audrey’s honor to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home for donations.
