Athanasios (Tom) Filis, an industrial engineer, born in Loutro, Greece, migrated to the US with his family in 1972 and lived the remainder of his life in Indianapolis, IN., died May 5, 2020 at the age of 66.
Tom is survived by his sister Dena Filis and extended family in US, Greece and Australia. He was proceeded in death by his father Fotis Filis and mother Christina Filis.
He graduated Purdue University with a degree in industrial engineering in 1981 and enjoyed a fruitful career with both Naval Avionics and Raytheon.
Tom was a devoted son and brother and although he suffered a prolonged debilitating illness he never allowed his impairments to keep him from enjoying travel, work and life in general. He especially enjoyed music, entertainment shows, nature’s wonders, soccer, basketball and all sports. Tom paid attention, a listener blessed with wisdom of worldly events and always game for an intellectual debate.
He was a quiet yet social person and devoted friend to all who knew him. A compassionate, friendly, kind soul, always smiling.
He was much loved and will be greatly missed.
