ARTHELLA LOUISE SMITH HALL was born January 27, 1944 to Arthur Freeman Smith and LaVern Avery Smith in Indianapolis, Indiana. She obtained an education through the Indianapolis Public Schools including Crispus Attacks High School, graduating from Arsenal Technical High School in 1962. She excelled in Home Economics and Business Administration which afforded her an Associates Degree from Indiana Central Business College.
In 1968, she married the love of her life, Irving Archer Hall. From this union, their only child Kimberly Hall was born in 1970. They enjoyed almost 35 years of marriage until his death in 2002.
At the age of 14, “Cookie” as she was affectionately known, began her career with the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library. Starting as a page, devoting 38 years of service to IMCPL, she retired as the Head of Acquisitions for the Order Section. Throughout her lifetime, Cookie demonstrated her quiet strength, impeccable style and grace through her career and community service. She was honored to contribute her time to the National Council of Negro Women’s Indianapolis Section serving as Board Recording Secretary for over five years.
On December 26, 1989, Arthella gave her life to Christ and was baptized at Hampton Avenue Church of Christ in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her greatest passion was spending time with family, especially her daughter Kim. The two of them spent a lot of time attending sports and entertainment events, shopping and traveling the country. It was her greatest joy.
Arthella Hall leaves to cherish her memory a daughter Kimberly Hall, sister Carolyn Marie (Smith) Hariakhan, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
