April “Dawn” Matters, 51, Carmel, passed away July 20, 2018, following a courageous two-year battle with breast cancer. She was born April 8, 1967, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Walter E. Benson and Carol Ann (Hinman) Houpt.
Dawn was an educator for over 15 years. She taught 2nd and 3rd grades, and then used her expertise in the classroom to mentor teachers in her position as an instructional coach. She touched the lives of students, families, and co-workers with her dedication and passion for her profession.
Dawn was known for her amazing and beautiful character. She loved life and put her heart in everything she did, especially as a mother to her three children. She will always be remembered for her quick wit, her positive attitude, and her sweet, gentle spirit
Dawn is survived by her mother, Carol Ann Houpt; three children, Jordan, Joseph, and Mackenzie Matters; and two sisters, Beth Litteral and Angie Merritt. She was preceded in passing by her father and grandparents.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at the funeral home.
