Anton C. “Tony” Schmid, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away July 21, 2021 with his family by his side. Tony was born August 10, 1952 in Chesterton, Indiana to Franz X. Schmid and Verla (Babcock) Schmid. He graduated from Chesterton High School in 1970 and was a member of Chesterton High School’s 1968 undefeated football team. Tony went on to play football at Ball State University from 1970-1973, where he was a star tailback. After leaving Ball State, he went on to play for two years for the Memphis Southmen, part of the newly created World Football League. Tony worked as a master carpenter and then as a general superintendent for over 20 years for MacDougall Pierce Construction Co. and then as a self-employed general contractor before retiring. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mary Schmid; three children, Allison Barmore (Matt), Anton F. Schmid (Jen) and Megan McFearin (Bret Horsfield); five beautiful grandchildren; his two brothers, Franz Michel (Mick) Schmid and John Schmid; and eight nieces and nephews.
He will be taken home to his beloved Lake Michigan shoreline where a private family memorial is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Hamilton County Humane Society.
