Annie Mae (Gatewood) Adams was born in Phoenix City, AL on December 12, 1931 to Otis Gatewood and Rosie Lee Brooks-Gatewood. Annie Mae was the oldest of 2 sisters, Maybell and Princess. She was educated in Phoenix City, AL.
She married Jimmie Lee Adams (affectionately known as “Joe”) in August 30, 1948. From that marriage 7 beautiful children were born. Annie Mae and Joe moved from Phoenix City, AL to Indianapolis, IN in 1955 and made Indy their home.
Annie Mae worked for Progressive Glass Factory and also was employed in the private health care industry. She later went to work for State Liquors where she retired. Annie Mae give her life to Christ at a young age and was a member of Grace Memorial Missionary Baptist Church.
Annie Mae was an amazing gift to the world and mostly her family. She had a way of making everybody feel special and she never met a stranger. Annie Mae had a heart full of love, compassion, kindness and faithfulness. She enjoyed people more than anything and always opened her home up to family and strangers.
Annie Mae’s hobbies included cooking, playing cards, dancing and traveling. She was a very elegant and classy women and was known for always driving a Cadillac and wearing headbands and scarves on her hair. She truly lived life to the fullest.
Anne Mae was preceded in death by both parents Otis and Rosie Lee Gatewood and her sister Maybell Gatewood. She leaves to cherish her sister Princess Gatewood Brown; her 7 children in order of births; Thomas; Jimmie Lee, Jr.; Horace (Lisa); Joe; Roger (Kecia); Francine of Rex, GA; Angelita Shaffer; 14 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; special sister in law Hazel Adams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
