Anne Uyesugi Williams

December 27, 1950 — October 26, 2020

Indianapolis, Indiana

Anne Uyesugi Williams, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all, departed this life on October 26, 2020.  Easily recognizable for jet-black hair which turned silver over the years, Anne was a generous giver of her time and talent to numerous groups and causes.  Her joyous approach to life will be remembered and missed by her family and many close friends.

Anne was born December 27, 1950 and grew up in Paoli, Indiana.  She graduated from Paoli High School in 1968 as class valedictorian, participating in numerous school activities ranging from yearbook editor to Honor Society secretary to drum majorette. She also participated and starred in local community theatre productions and was active in her local church.

Anne received her B.A. and Masters degrees from Indiana University Bloomington, where she met Bradley, her husband of 48 years.  The couple settled in Indianapolis and raised two daughters, Elizabeth and Sarah.

Upon moving to Indianapolis in 1978 Anne worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Indiana in Medicare claims, and later worked in the nursing home industry as a bookkeeper.  After her children were born she worked as an EEO consultant to various businesses in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.  She volunteered her time to many organizations, including the Julian Center, Cathedral Kitchen, Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library, and Phi Mu Latrean.

Anne took great pride in her Japanese heritage and of her extended family on both sides of the Pacific.  For nearly fifteen years she hosted reunions of that far-flung family in her home. Her hors d’oeuvres were the main attraction at many a Super Bowl neighborhood gathering, which she likewise hosted for nearly 20 years.

Anne enjoyed playing the piano, playing bridge, bowling, yoga, knitting and crochet.  She enjoyed attending productions of the Indiana Repertory Theatre and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.  She was an avid fan of the television series “Dancing With the Stars” and thanks to the efforts of her children attended last year’s finals in person.

She was preceded in death by her younger brother Edward F. Uyesugi.  She is survived by husband Bradley, and daughters Elizabeth (Jonathan Dewing) and Sarah Williams, by older brother Daniel F. Uyesugi, and by her granddaughter, Zoe Alexandra Uyesugi Dewing.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library.
