Anne Elizabeth Vicars Hunter left us on October 6th in Flower Mound, Texas. After a long battle with her health, she slipped away peacefully with her loving daughter, Leigh, by her side.
Anne was born on September 23, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Owen and Majorie Denney Vicars. She grew up in Indianapolis, where she was a member of Christ Church Cathedral and attended Thomas Carr High School. She later graduated from Purdue University with dual majors in Sociology and French. Following graduation, she remained an active sister of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
Anne also attended Otterbein University and Middlebury College, where she earned her Master’s Degree in French.
She had the pleasure of teaching French and Psychology to high-school students in Westerville, Ohio. She was a beloved teacher whose tireless dedication to education and to her students was her life’s work.
Anne was a longtime resident of Cleveland Heights, Westerville, and Worthington, Ohio. She was especially fond of her home in the Colonial Hills neighborhood, where she was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church for many years.
In life, Anne was a lover of family, friends, the arts, dancing, music, movies, a good laugh, and anything French. She was an avid world traveller, and when asked what her favorite destination was, she’d reply, “C’est la France, n’ect-ce pas!” She was a lover of adventure, and she possessed the remarkable ability of making even the most mundane errand seem like the most exciting quest.
She is survived by her two children, Christopher D. and Leigh A.; her brother Robert E. Vicars; and her four grandchildren, Dylan, Owen, Sylvia, and Violet. She was pre-deceased by her father, Owen L. Vicars and mothers, Marjorie Denney and Lillian Peterman.
