Anna Ruth (Worley) Cummings, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019.
She was born on December 30, 1933 in Monroe, TN as the youngest of 4 children born to James and Loranza (Newberry) Worley. As a young child, Anna’s family relocated to Bainbridge, Indiana where she graduated Bainbridge High School in 1951 as salutatorian of her class. She attended the Methodist Hospital Nursing Program and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1955. Anna married the love of her life, Joseph Cummings, a few months later on August 28, 1955. She spent many years at home caring for her growing family, and later returned to work as a tutor for Indianapolis Public Schools and as a nurse for Winona and St. Vincent Hospitals, retiring in 1999 after many years of service. Anna enjoyed sewing, puzzles and cheering on her beloved Colts and Pacers teams. She and her husband were longtime members of Outlook Christian Church, where Anna enjoyed being a part of the Women’s Ministry.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Joseph Cummings; children, Scott (Katherine Newbold) Cummings, Brian (Amy) Cummings and Kimberly (Don) Lund; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Anna is also survived by sisters, Geraldine Malone and Irene Gibbs of Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Harold Worley.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 1-3pm at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park with funeral services immediately following. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to leave online condolences for the family at www.flannerbuchanan.com.
