Anna L Golay

On Tuesday, January 15, 2019, Anna Louise Golay (née Hall), passed away at age 88.  She passed peacefully in her own home surrounded by her loved ones.

Anna was born on August 25, 1930 in Indianapolis Indiana, to Orin and Anna Hall.  In 1946 she married Maurice Wesley Golay (Wes), and they remained happily married until his death in 1995.  Together, they had four children: Elwanda Lynn, Maurice Wesley Jr., Rhonda Lee, and Kristi Gayle.  Anna also had two step-children, Donald Eugene and Donna Lou.

Anna was a caregiver her entire life, starting in the eighth grade when she dropped out of school to care for her mother, who had terminal breast cancer.  During her years of raising children, she simultaneously cared for her father, Orin, in the final years of his life.  While Rhonda and Kristi were young, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Springer Nursing Home on West Washington Street in Indianapolis.  Anna eventually went on to earn her GED and then her LPN degree in 1981 from Ivy Tech Community College.  Upon receiving her LPN, Anna started work at Eagle Valley Healthcare Nursing Home, where she lovingly cared for her elderly patients until her retirement.  Throughout her later years, one of Anna’s greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Anna will be eternally remembered by her loved ones as a servant’s heart, a fierce protector, and the finest Euchre partner in the Midwest.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Orin and Anna, and her husband, Wes.  She is survived by her sister, Leva Hughes, her children, Elwanda Cooke (Jim), Maurice Jr., Rhonda Racine, Kristi Wozniak (Tom), Donald (Nancy), and Donna Sheets, her grandchildren, Rob Shipp (Lynn), Mike Shipp (Sheri), Brandon Whitley, Ashlee Whitley, Cody Whitley (Katie), Alyssa Wozniak, Sophia Wozniak, and Geoffrey Wozniak, and her great-grandchildren Bailey, Blake, Lexus, Presli, Lucas, Hazel, and Frances.

Any donations should be made Indiana Donor Network (IDN) in honor of her grandson Brandon and his donor families.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 4-8PM at Flanner Buchanan—Floral Park, 425 N. Holt Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46222. Additional visitation will be held the following day from 11AM-12PM, with a funeral service beginning at 12PM.
