Ann Helderman Vaughan

January 19, 1941 — December 15, 2024

Indianapolis, IN

Ann Helderman Vaughan, a trailblazing professional, devoted friend, and cherished neighbor, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, at the age of 83. Born to Charles Lentz Helderman and Kathleen Stikeleather Helderman in Gold Hill, North Carolina, Ann exemplified strength, independence, and a deep love for life throughout her remarkable journey.

Ann graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1963 with a degree in Home Economics. She began her career sharing her culinary talents, writing cookbooks for Jenn Air and even hosting her own cooking television show. She later transitioned into corporate leadership, working as an account executive for Sprint Cellular, where she left an enduring legacy through her mentorship and expertise.

In her retirement, Ann embraced her many passions and creative talents. She became an accomplished painter, a dedicated needlepoint artist, and an avid pianist. She also had a deep love for nature which brought her peace and joy. Ann’s adventurous spirit and love of travel took her to new places, creating meaningful connections and lifelong memories along the way.

Ann’s love for animals was another hallmark of her life. She traveled extensively to show her beloved cat, Gauguin, who won numerous awards, including the prestigious title of Grand Champion. Her pride in Gauguin’s accomplishments was a reflection of her unwavering dedication and care.

Ann’s adventurous nature extended to her love of sailing, where she competed with determination and joy, finding camaraderie and exhilaration on the water. She also had a lifelong passion for the Indianapolis 500, attending the race every year and cherishing the tradition as one of her favorite events.

Known for her resourcefulness and tenacity, Ann managed her home and garden independently well into her eighties. While Indiana was her primary home, she also cherished her winters in Florida, surrounded by lifelong friends who brought her immense happiness.

Ann Vaughan was truly one of a kind—a fiercely independent woman who lived life on her own terms and touched the hearts of everyone she met. Her zest for life, artistic talents, and kind spirit will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered. Ann accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior on December 9, 2024, and is now at peace, embracing the wonders of heaven just as she embraced life on Earth.
